Gertrude Hewitt Brown

Gertrude Hewitt Brown born at Shaver's Rock, PA, on August 11, 1872, was the daughter of R. M. Hewitt, of Cottage, in Huntingdon County, PA.  She was married to Porter Samuel Brown on June 17, 1896, at the home of her brother Will Hewitt, also a resident of Huntingdon County.   The marriage service was performed by Rev. Finney, of Petersburg, PA.  The Browns resided in Clarion, until September of 1898, when they moved to Brookville where Mr. Brown was a partner in Brown Brothers Insurance. 

Porter and Gertrude Brown were the parents of three children, Firman Hewitt Brown of Montana, Ellen Newell (Brown) Adams of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Stephens Porter Brown, of Chicago, Illinois. 

Mrs. Brown died on May 10, 1921, at the Post Graduate Hospital in New York City, following a surgical operation.  She was buried in the Brookville Cemetery, Brookville, PA.

Brown, Jr., grandson of Porter Samuel and Gertrude (Hewitt) Brown, is seeking information about his grandfather and grandmother, and information about his great-grandfather and great-grandmother, Benjamin  Franklin and Martha Jane (Stewart) Brown and their children.  He can be contacted at
