Tombstone of the Month

Andrew & Magdalena (Hetrick) Vasbinder

Two of the earliest families in Jefferson County, PA, were the Vasbinders and Hetricks.  The Vasbinder name was originally spelled Fossbinner, Fassbinner, Fasbindler, and Vastbinder.  When the family settled in Jefferson County, the spelling then became Vasbinder.  Andrew Vasbinder, born 1811, was the son of Henry and Margaret Vasbinder, and established his farm what is now Warsaw Township.  He was married about 1835 to Magdalena Hetrick, born 1816.  Their family consisted of 12 children: Anna, Elizabeth, Gabriel, Margaret, Darius James, Nancy Jane, Nathan, Amy E., Catherine, Caroline, Othnile C. and Zelty.

Magdalena died Dec. 9, 1886, and Andrew on Jan. 21, 1889, and are buried together in the old Ferris Cemetery, in Warsaw Township, Jefferson County, PA.
