Edwin & Catherine Snyder

Mr. and Mrs. Snyder were longtime residents of Jefferson County in Pennsylvania.  Edwin Snyder was born in Union County, PA, on 14 February 1827, and moved to Clarion County with his parents when very young.  Between 1850 and 1860, he came to Brookville to establish his own home and was a blacksmith in this community.  He was a member of the Odd Fellow and the Knights of Pythias.

His wife, Catherine Stover, was born near Bellefonte, Centre County on 10 May 1830 and came to Jefferson County in 1848, making her home with her sister, Mrs. Lydia Haugh, of Roseville. Edwin and Catherine were married 16 June 1850, and were the parents of ten children.  Two of the children died young.  The remaining eight children were: W. Elton Snyder, of Brookville; Margaret A. Reed, of Widnoon, Armstrong Co.; Mary Jane Bell, South Forks, PA; George Snyder, of Harrisburg, PA; Mrs. Jerome Prosper, Old Forge, NY; Mrs. William Storms, Jamesville, NY; John Snyder of Jersey Shore, PA; and B. Mack Snyder of DuBois, PA.

Mr. Snyder passed away on 14 September 1909 at his home on West Main Street in Brookville and was buried in the Brookville Cemetery beside his wife Catherine.  She died 10 April 1900.
