Raymond Elliot & Nell L.
(Robinson) Brown

Brown_RaymondRaymond E. Brown was born at Arnot, in Tioga County, PA, on April 16, 1881, a son of Fremont M. and Ada (Elliott) Brown.  The family moved to Reynoldville where their son attended school, graduating from Reynoldsville High School 1896, when he was 15 years of age.  In 1903, he graduated from Cornell University and entered the University of Pennsylvania Law School. After he completed law school, he returned to Jefferson County and was a practicing attorney for sixty years in Brookville.  On October 19, 1907, he was married to Nell Robinson, who was also of Reynoldsville.  Nell L . Brown was born in Mercer, PA, on August 3, 1882, the daughter of S. S. & Emma (Mundorf) Robinson. The family moved to Hazelton, KS, and then to Reynoldsville in 1893.

Brown_NellAfter their marriage, the Browns established a home in Brookville in 1907, and were the parents of two daughters, Marjorie and Marion.  During his law career, Mr. Brown was associated with various other well-known lawyers in the community.  He was a veteran of World War I, serving as a Major with the Judge Advocate General's Department of the 35th Division.  He was active in community affairs, was a Justice of the Peace, was county solicitor under three boards of County Commissioners, and was chairman of the Board of Trustees of Clarion State College (now known as Clarion University), as well as other local organizations. Nell Brown died October 8, 1966, and was buried in the Brookville Cemetery.  After a series of strokes, he died March 16, 1970, was buried beside her in the family plot.
