William Harrison & Susan (Fike) Dempsey

Harrison_WilliamWilliam Harrison Dempsey was born at Emerickville, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, on April 18, 1860.  He was a son of Joseph A. and Sarah (Britton) Dempsey.  The Dempsey family, were farmers and like his ancestors, Mr. Dempsey established a homestead in Pine Creek Township and followed that occupation all his life.  William married Susan E. Fike, daughter of Peter and Lucy Fike, and they had eleven children, two of whom died in infancy.  The surviving children were Jenny Byerly, of Brookville; Mrs . William Pomroy, of Youngstown, OH; LeRoy, of Driftwood; James A., of Oil City; Mrs. Jack Pemberton, of Brookville; William B., of Erie; Florence Minnich, of Iowa Mills; Altheda Reitz, of Brookville; and Robert, of Allens Mills. 

On November 30, 1908, Susan went to their spring to bring water for the household, and when she did not return, a search for her found she had drowned in the spring. She was buried in Church of God Cemetery.

After the death of Susan, William married Sara Ida Jane Buck, daughter of Daniel and Eva (Hetrick) Buck, of Worthville. 

William died at his home on January 25, 1936, at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 7 days.  He was also buried in the Church of God Cemetery in Emerickville beside Susan.
