William C. Evans was born in Brookville, Jefferson County, in March 1832. His family later moved to Rockdale Mills, where he lived as a young man. He enlisted in the
Union Army and served until he was injured and discharged due to disability.
He married Sarah Johnson, and made his home in Brookville where their children were born and raised. William and Sarah's
children were John, Harry, and Charles, and several that died young.
