John Jamison Thompson was born
June 16, 1826, in Jefferson County, PA, one of ten children of the Hon. John J.Y. and Agnes (Kennedy) Thompson. On June 25, 1863, he married Mary E. Darr, of Brookville. He was one of the proprietors of the
"American Hotel", later becoming engaged in the lumbering business. His family is said to have come from Ireland, settling near Blairsville, PA, about 1795. Agnes Kennedy, his mother, was the granddaughter of
Benjamin McClure, a soldier in the Revolutionary War. John Jamison Thompson died September 10, 1906 and is buried in the Brookville
Cemetery. His wife Mary E., died on July 27, 1871, at the age of 32 years 7 months and 21 days, and is buried beside him.
