John Chamberlin was the son of one of the pioneer families of Jefferson County.  His parents were Peter and Mary Ann (Snyder) Chamberlin who settled in the Richardsville, and established one of the earliest farms.  At that time, he paid the price of $2.50 an acre for his land.  Peter Chamberlin was the son of Joseph Chamberlin from Northumberland County, who died in that county.  Mary Ann Snyder was from the Snyder family of Potter County, PA.

John Chamberlin was born January 27, 1826, and established his own farm in the Polk Township area of Jefferson County.  He was first married about 1848 to Nancy Vasbinder of Warsaw Township.  They were the parents of eight children, Samuel Miles, Henry, Thomas, Mary, Rosa, Lusiann, Sarah, and Edward.  His wife, Nancy, was born January 19, 1826, and was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Fye) Vasbinder.  Nancy died April 11, 1884.

On May 7, 1885, John married, second, to Elizabeth Sallade, the marriage taking place at Brookville, PA.
Elizabeth Sallade was born May 31, 1840, and died April 2, 1904 at their home near Richardsville.    Both wives are buried in the Baptist Cemetery at Richardsville.

Mr. Chamberlin passed away on January 13, 1906, and was buried in the family plot at the Richardsville Baptist Cemetery.
