Tombstone of the Month

Henry G. & Rebecca C. Verstine

Henry G. Verstine was born in Brookville, PA, on January 17, 1857, one of the six children of Bernard and Harriet Verstine.  He was educated in the local schools, then attended St. Vincent College.  On December 27, 1882, he married Rebecca C. Heichhold at Brookville.  They became the parents of two children, Bernard and Fayette.  Their daughter, Fayette, married John J. Sullivan.

Mr. Verstine was a lumberman for twenty-five years in Jefferson County, and enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.  In 1910, he and Rebecca moved their home and family to Detroit, Michigan, were he took over as President of the Tivoli Brewing Company in that city.  The brewing company had been started by his father, Bernard Verstine.

Henry G. Verstine died at Harper Hospital in Detroit on February 14th, 1930, and was buried in the family plot in the Brookville Cemetery.  His wife, Rebecca, died in 1943, and was buried beside her husband.
